COURSE DESCRIPTION (FROM THE LIFESAVING SOCIETY): Basic First Aid provides awareness, knowledge, and skills related to first aid principles and the emergency treatment of injuries. Topics include workplace safety, self-protection, scene and primary assessment, CPR, breathing emergencies such as choking, and what to do for external bleeding, heart attack/angina, stroke, and using an AED. Includes CPR-C with AED certification for adult, child and infant. It is recognized by Ontario's Workplace Safety & Insurance Board.
COURSE DURATION (based on a class of 12-16): 8 hours
COURSE DESCRIPTION (FROM THE LIFESAVING SOCIETY): Intermediate First Aid includes all aspects of Basic First Aid and provides additional comprehensive first aid training. Candidates demonstrate first aid care for anaphylaxis, shock, stroke, amputations, facial injuries, burn injuries, fractures and dislocations, neck or spinal column injuries, seizures, diabetic emergencies, and environmental injury and illness. Includes CPR-C with AED certification for adult, child and infant. It is recognized by Ontario's Workplace Safety & Insurance Board.
COURSE DURATION (based on a class of 12-16): 16 hours
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS (FROM THE LIFESAVING SOCIETY):
CPR-A teaches how to do adult CPR and choking procedures for adults and includes the importance of early defibrillation and how to use an AED.
CPR-C covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adults, children and infants including two-rescuer CPR skills. CPR-C includes the importance of early defibrillation and how to use an AED. CPR-C certification is included in Basic and Intermediate First Aid.
CPR-HCP/BLS & AED (HCP stands for Health Care Provider) covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adult, child and infant victims, including rescue breathing (artificial respiration) and the use of AEDs and bag-valve-masks (BVM). This HCP level is designed specifically for those who, as part of their job descriptions as Health Care Providers, have a duty to respond to medical emergencies (e.g., doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied health care professionals).

COURSE Description (FROM THE LIFESAVING SOCIETY):
Airway Management certification provides senior and experienced lifeguards with specific knowledge and training in the use of oxygen, suction devices, oral airways and bag-valve-masks.
PREREQUISITE: Intermediate (Standard) First Aid
